The new Netflix political crime thriller Animals brings Ben Affleck into a world of tension, deceit, and survival. Written and directed by the 54-year-old actor, the movie follows desperate parents who will go to any lengths to save their son after he is abducted. But their race to track him down is filled with shocking revelations, action, and drama.

The trailer has given a glimpse into the gritty world of Animals, where Affleck’s character struggles to find his son. And the intense scenes have clearly left many viewers curious about where the movie was filmed.

Netflix’s new political crime thriller Animals was shot entirely in Los Angeles. One of the film’s most recognizable locations is the Original Farmers Market at 6333 W. 3rd Street. The cast members Ben Affleck and Steven Yeun filmed some scenes near Stall 432. 

Another location is the famous LA River Storm Drain System, where Affleck was spotted filming some of the movie’s most intense action scenes, as per What’s on Netflix. The location has also been featured in projects such as Grease, Terminator 2, and Drive. The decision to film Animals entirely in Los Angeles is an interesting move for the production

The city has experienced a decline in television and film production in recent years. Filming the entire movie in Los Angeles could provide a boost to the local film industry. Affleck, who also stars in the film, is joined by Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, and Christopher Woodley.

However, initially, Affleck was not supposed to star in the film.

While Ben Affleck wrote Animals and was set to direct the film, Matt Damon was originally supposed to star in it. Damon was set to play Mark, while Jennifer Garner was slated to portray Abigail. However, as Affleck told Entertainment Weekly, he had to put his production plans on hold after learning that Spike Lee was working on a project with a similar plot. 

When Affleck finally began production, Damon had to exit the film due to scheduling conflicts. This led Affleck to step into the role of Mark, while Kerry Washington was cast as Abigail. While there have been a few ups and downs, the movie has finally geared up for its release and is set to arrive on Netflix on October 9, 2026.
