Joe Keery initially only had a one-season planned appearance for Stranger Things. However, after leaving an impact on fans with his acting prowess, he has now held onto that role for close to eight years. Moreover, his performance won him a character arc that saw him evolve and get involved in defending Upside Down. With such an association, he admitted that “It won’t be easy for it to end,” following season five, to Women's Wear Daily in August 2023.

“There’s a sense of relief…a sense of sadness,” Keery added when last asked about his feelings on potentially leaving Stranger Things for good back in August 2023. The comments, however, came as a sharp departure from the stance put forth by Millie Bobby Brown. The Damsel actress counted the show as a stepping point and believed she now had ample opportunities to explore up ahead while bidding the show “Thank you, and goodbye”.
