Ahead of ‘Oppenheimer’s Release, Netflix to Bring This Oscar-Winning Christopher Nolan Classic to Streaming

Netflix has been exploring multiple genres both from home production and old classics. From drama and comedy to animation and war, the entertainment industry is doubling down on the variety that it releases. One of the most upcoming and much-discussed of them all is Oppenheimer. Be it the periodic setup or the accents, the movie has been dropping bombs of excitement already.

The Cillian Murphy starrer is set to release on the 21st of July. It will be released by Universal Pictures in theatres before hitting OTT platforms. But before the Christopher Nolan movie reaches us, Netflix is preparing its fans for the filmmaker’s magic by bringing on a similar movie. One which moved the fans with its thrilling plot and action.

Netflix is set to bring a number of movies and series back, and the dates for each of them are out. They will be a mix of licensed and home productions, all of which are fan favorites. But one that is similar to Oppenheimer is the 2017 hit flick Dunkirk. According to WhatsOnNetflix, it is set to land on the OTT platform on 17th June. The historic war film gives takes you through a time travel back into the era of World War II.

It revolves around a young British private named Tommy Jenson, who remains the sole survivor of an ambush attack by the Germans. This Oscar-winning film is based in the 1940s and was inspired by real events, especially during the Battle of France. It is often considered one of the best works of Nolan. It won Oscars in three categories, including film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing.

But what is perhaps exciting is both Dunkirk and Oppenheimer are Christopher Nolan movies. There are, however, other similarities between the two.

Apart from having the same directors, both the flick will have similar faces like Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy, who has been dropping hints about the movie. Although the first was one of Nolan’s shortest movies, with a run time of 106 minutes and is marked PG-13, the upcoming one is expected to last for around three hours and is R rated.

Oppenheimer is based on the book American Prometheus while Dunkirk was written by Nolan from his perspective. So while fans wait to see the magic of Cillian Murphy on the big screens again, Dunkirk can give a taste of what Nolan’s work looks like.
