Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things, revealed how he
accidentally came up with the idea for the spin-off that the Duffer Brothers are
working on. He shared the story during an appearance on The Tonight Show With
Jimmy Fallon in January 2023. Wolfhard mentioned being on the set of Stranger
Things 4 filming alongside his co-stars. They were all having a conversation
speculating about their characters’ future. Wolfhard, without knowledge,
playfully suggested a spin-off idea to the Duffer Brothers unaware that they had
already contemplated the same concept!



One of the co-stars once seemingly joked that one day the showrunners will have
the old cast again after twenty years or so. To which the actor added to the
Duffer Brothers, “Oh, but if you guys are actually gonna do a spin-off, it
should be this.” The Duffer Brothers were taken aback and somewhat suspicious,
curious, about who had leaked the idea to him!

Wolfhard assured them that he had merely come up with it accidentally on his
own, seeing it as an opportunity to expand the show’s universe. In response, the
Duffer Brothers advised him to keep the idea under wraps and said, “Okay, well,
don’t tell anyone!”

Nevertheless, the actor’s slip of the tongue was enough to capture fans’ minds
