Netflix and Warner Bros. Television are reportedly developing a 300 prequel series, with Zack Snyder attached to direct the pilot. The original film turned an outnumbered army into a global sensation back in 2006, and that legacy has lingered ever since. A 2014 follow-up failed to match that impact, leaving the franchise dormant for over a decade. New details are now surfacing about how this expansion could finally come together.
As Spartan legends make their way back into development rooms, one insider's claim is doing most of the heavy lifting online.

Film critic John Rocha has reportedly claimed that Netflix and Warner Bros. Television are quietly building a 300 prequel series together. According to Rocha, a writers' room has already been assembled, though the project has not yet been ordered to series.
"It's not been ordered to series yet, but a writers room has been assembled," he said on X.
He then added, "As a fan of 300 and Snyder, I love this news," emphasizing genuine excitement over the update.

Reports of a 300 prequel actually trace back to May 2024, when outlets including Variety, Deadline, and TVLine confirmed that Warner Bros. Television had the project in early development, with no writer or platform confirmed at that stage. Snyder later addressed the project himself in September 2024, revealing that the team was preparing to dive into writing. However, no major trade publication has yet verified the newer claims about Netflix joining the effort or a writers' room forming, leaving Rocha as the sole source behind this latest update.
While Snyder chases new Spartan ground, another shelved project of his still sparks plenty of debate.
Zack Snyder once had his own vision for Supergirl
Long before James Gunn reshaped the DC universe, Zack Snyder had quietly floated his own version of Supergirl. Hints of Kara Zor-El first appeared through an open pod glimpsed aboard a Kryptonian ship in Man of Steel, which fueled years of fan speculation. Snyder eventually confirmed his interest during a Man of Steel watch party in May 2020, explaining that expanding the universe with characters like Supergirl had always been part of his broader plan for the DC family.

A standalone Supergirl film never moved past that stage, yet Snyder had a strong foundation available in the Man of Steel prequel comic, which detailed Kara's final pilot test, the collapse of Krypton, and her arrival on Earth. His track record with female-led stories, from Sucker Punch to 300: Rise of an Empire, suggested he could have delivered something distinct from Gunn's newer take. That vision remains unrealized, but it shows how far Snyder's ambitions for this universe once stretched, long before this fresh 300 prequel update resurfaced.
