2026 is set to be the biggest year for BTS and ARMY as the boy band finally makes its long-awaited return after nearly four years of hiatus. To celebrate the moment, the group has announced a special livestreamed performance, BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, that will air on Netflix. This will be quite historic as the live event will be the first to be streamed globally from Korea. 

But bringing the electric and energetic performance to the people across the globe is not an easy feat. And for an event as big as this, BTS and Netflix turned to Hamish Hamilton, who is known for directing some of the biggest live events in the world. 

So, who is the man set to take the helm of what promises to be one of the most unforgettable BTS events ever?

Hamish Hamilton: The Man behind BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG

British director Hamish Hamilton has officially come on board to direct BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, to be held at Gwanghwamun in Seoul, on March 21. Now, Hamilton is not just another name in the industry. He has been the creative force behind some of the Super Bowl Halftime Shows since 2010, as well as the Academy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.

From directing the 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Birmingham to Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows, he has an impressive range of works to his name. Over the years, he has also collaborated with artists like Britney Spears, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Jennifer Lopez.

So, Hamilton’s selection for the job is not surprising. As for the celebration, it does not end with the live concert. A feature-length documentary is also in the works, and it is handed to another creative force, Bao Nguyen. 

Know about BTS: The Return

Just a few days after the event, the documentary BTS: The Return will feature on Netflix on March 27. It is directed by Bao Nguyen, who is best known for The Greatest Night in Pop. The film will show the BTS members reuniting in Los Angeles to create music together again after their hiatus.

And both the live event and the documentary will be followed by the release of their new album, 'ARIRANG', on March 20. This is BTS’s first project since their hiatus, during which all the members completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. With their return, the group has also announced a global tour spanning 2026 and 2027. 

So between new music, major projects, and a worldwide tour ahead, BTS is clearly back in action!
