Netflix Axes Spice Girls’ 30th Anniversary Plans for Unsavoury Reasons

For three decades, the Spice Girls have played cultural moments one atop another, their catalog seasoning global charts with irresistible flair. And when Netflix stepped in to bottle that legacy for a reunion spectacle, the anticipation was quick to start simmering. Yet, the group appears to have reheated the same old recipe one time too many.
What promised to be a 30th anniversary banquet for their enthusiasts now rests off the menu, the celebratory brew shelved for the foreseeable future. Netflix's commitment is not often seen broken midway, but this time, the spice seems to have gotten to it.

The Spice Girls first came onto the scene with 'Wannabe' in July 1996, quickly becoming chart dominators across several countries, which crystallized their “girl power” credo. Its kinetic energy transformed them into instant global fixtures. Fast forward to 2026, however, their 30th anniversary reunion weighs more heavily than those early microphones.
With media reports citing interpersonal strains, scheduling clashes, and lingering disagreements resurfacing across press circuits and industry whispers, a long-gestating Netflix commemoration has been cancelled as a result, as per The Sun's sources.
Reportedly conceived as a hybrid documentary drama, the Netflix project had probably intended to braid archival rise to present-day reflections; plans which now lay stagnant once again. Mel B, or Scary Spice, had even publicly voiced enthusiasm for the upcoming anniversary back in early 2025 on The Jimmy & Nath Show, now to no current avail. While The Sun's insider has not snuffed all hopes, the 30th anniversary's excitement is likely to have died down by the time the streaming project is set back in motion.
Netflix may have taken a step back, but had it not, the Spice Girls would not be facing their first time on the screen.

While the anniversary landmark may have stalled, the ensemble’s screen résumé, a feat that Victoria Beckham might even be exemplifying, remains robust enough to cushion the void. Their theatrical venture, Spice World, had converted pop frenzy into box office muscle, grossing over $150 million worldwide despite divided reviews. At their commercial zenith, television specials and guest appearances had, in fact, rendered them omnipresent.
And if it is any consolation, curiosity around a Paramount Animation tribute to the Spice Girls has also seasoned the air since 2019.

The Spice Girls' cinematic detours and televised dominance continue to echo through pop culture corridors, despite the curtain now lowered on their streaming stage. Their evergreen retrospective keeps the reunion spirit breathing in quieter ways. If harmony feels distant today, the lens still waits patiently, ready to capture celebration whenever unity finds its rhythm again.
