After decades of successful broadcasting, the Oscars will leave home and migrate to a new, entirely free platform from ABC following its 100th year, slated for 2028. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has declared that the main award ceremony will be streaming on YouTube from 2029.

"The Oscars, including red carpet coverage, behind-the-scenes content, Governors Ball access, and more, will be available live and for free to over 2 billion viewers around the world on YouTube, and to YouTube TV subscribers in the United States," reads the official press release by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

YouTube will not only provide the entire content for free but also provide closed captions and audio tracks accompanying every broadcast, available in multiple languages. Meanwhile, though, the Oscars have moved forward without Netflix, the streaming titan, despite not bagging Hollywood's biggest night, has brought home one of music's biggest events.
