Why Did Netflix and Meghan Markle’s As Ever End Partnership After Just One Year

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is known to be a successful entrepreneur aside from being a former actor. In 2025, she launched her own lifestyle and home goods brand, As Ever, which made products like jams and honey, tea and wine, candles, and various other things. The first line of products came out in April, only one month after the release of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, in which she shared cooking, gardening, and hosting ideas with her celebrity pals while they visited her house.

One year has gone by since its launch, and Netflix, which was in partnership with her brand, is now stepping away from this deal.

Netflix has made it clear that its decision was not something that came out of the blue, but was already in the contract. They were meant to be partnered up only for a year, and now the term has ended. A spokesperson from the streamer said that they are happy that they got to be a part of Meghan Markle’s journey with the brand so far, and now she will be continuing on independently.

"As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently, and we look forward to celebrating how she continues to bring joy to households around the world," said a Netflix spokesperson to USA TODAY on Friday, March 6. There is also a statement from the brand that echoes a similar sentiment toward this decision.

"We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth, and As ever is now ready to stand on its own. We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share more," a spokesperson for the brand told PEOPLE on March 6. Both statements make it pretty clear that this was something that they knew from day one.

But the critics online have made it all about Markle and how this decision has something to do with the dwindling viewership of her show, With Love, Meghan, according to Fox News. Some also blamed her products for not being up to the mark, and that they are not even able to hold ground in the US market.

Well, whatever the real reason might be, it is a fact that Markle’s association with Netflix goes beyond this deal.

The other projects from their collaboration

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly signed a $100 million contract with Netflix. They collaborated on the 2022 series Harry & Meghan, Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus in 2023, and Polo in 2024 before declaring in July 2025 that their contract would not be renewed.

With Love, Meghan debuted on Netflix in March and had a second season in August of 2025, along with a Christmas special in December. Although the show is not formally canceled, there has not been any information about a third season.

Both parties seem to have a long-standing professional relationship, collaborating frequently with each other. There seems to be no reason to doubt this move, as this was a pre-planned one, as stated by both parties.
