After the phenomenal success of Ryan Gosling’s The Gray Man in 2022, Netflix wasted no time announcing a sequel within a week of its release. Yet, with the silence surrounding its progress, fans grew apprehensive about the sequel's fate. However, in a recent interview with GamesRadar+ at the Sands: International Film Festival in St. Andrews, Scotland, Joe Russo reassured fans that the film is indeed in development and presently, the filmmakers are navigating the path the story should take.

Russo mentioned that they have been exploring various concepts and theories to steer character development in a meaningful direction. When The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas first hit on Netflix in the summer of 2022, fans were thrilled to welcome the star-studded cast for an at-home binge session. However, following its release, the former chairman of the Netflix Film department, Scott Stuber, teased one of the key changes that will take place during the sequel. Stubber emphasized to the Collider in November 2023 that The Gray Man 2 will focus and “spend more time with” Ryan Gosling’s character on the screen.

Stuber reflected on his discussions with Joe and Anthony Russo, where the trio believed in the necessity of bringing justice to a character, especially when the one starring in it has the ability to bring out great results. Hence, refocusing and prioritizing what the character needs and making it unique remained a challenge they wanted to address. For now, as per the Russo Brothers’ update, it seems that they have finally found the outlet to extend the story and make Gosling’s character live up to its expectations in The Gray Man 2.
