On April 8, the fifth and final season of The Boys will debut with a two-episode premiere to resolve the chaotic saga that began in 2019. Starr has earned widespread acclaim and multiple award nominations for his ability to blend menace with vulnerability. As his tenure with Prime Video draws to a close, he is pivoting toward a dark new project by Netflix, Breakers.

According to Deadline, Netflix has officially greenlighted a new scripted series titled Breakers, which will feature Antony Starr in the lead role. Beyond his starring performance, Starr will also serve as an executive producer for this psychological thriller. The production is currently underway in Western Australia and is scheduled to conclude filming by June 2026.

The plot follows two American backpackers who discover a seemingly idyllic community of surfers during their travels through Australia. They are quickly captivated by the group’s charismatic and enigmatic leader, a man named Brando, portrayed by Starr. This role allows the actor to explore a different brand of magnetism and mystery within a tight-knit community.

"Breakers follows two best friends from the U.S. who go backpacking in Australia and are soon drawn into a seemingly perfect community of surfers," Deadline confirmed in an exclusive report regarding the plot. Fans should wait eagerly after The Boys' final run.

Expanding the Australian production slate

According to the same report of Deadline, the series, Breakers, marks a significant first as the initial Netflix project to film in Western Australia with local government support. This expansion highlights a growing trend of major streaming platforms utilizing the unique landscapes of the continent for high-end storytelling.

Breakers joins other highly anticipated Australian titles, such as the third season of Heartbreak High. This collaboration ensures a high level of prestige and a dark, compelling narrative tone for the upcoming release.

The series is developed by writer-executive producer Pete Jackson, who previously gained acclaim for Somewhere Boy and The D---- of Bunny Munro. This project also involves the creative powerhouse Clerkenwell Films, the team behind global hits such as Baby Reindeer.

Antony Starr joins Jackson as an executive producer alongside industry veterans Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, and Wim De Greef. The directorial vision for the project is led by Mary Nighy and Ng Choon Ping, who bring experience from high-profile dramas like Industry.
