7 Movies on Netflix You’ll Be Glad You Finally Watched

And Netflix’s library is full of hidden gems, packed with incredible storytelling, brilliant performances, and stunning cinematography. From horror and thriller to rom-com and mystery, there are plenty of watches waiting to be found. 

Ahead of the next wave of trending films, shows, and documentaries, here is a lineup of seven movies on Netflix that deserve a watch.

Atlantics (2019)

Atlantics is the first feature film directed by Mati Diop. The movie follows a young girl, Ada, who is set to marry Omar, a wealthy man, but she does not love him. Her lover, Souleiman, has left Senegal by sea for work. On the wedding day, Ada falls under suspicion when the man she is supposed to marry mysteriously dies. 

Gradually, the story reveals how the spirits of those who had tried to escape the sea had returned to possess the bodies of Dakar’s inhabitants to seek revenge. The film shows brilliant cinematography and, at the same time, it is romantic and heartbreaking, making it a must-watch. Starring Mame Bineta Sane and Amadou Mbow, the movie is rated 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently available to stream on Netflix.

Dick Johnson Is Dead (2020)

Dick Johnson Is Dead is a documentary film directed by Kirsten Johnson. The documentary won the Special Jury Award for Innovation in Non-fiction Storytelling at the Sundance Film Festival. It follows Johnson and her father, Richard (Dick) Johnson, who has dementia, as they act out several scenes of death and even a funeral in a hilarious fashion.

More than a film, it was Johnson’s way of dealing with her father’s dementia. This dark comedy documentary is moving, emotional, and healing at the same time. It has a 99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 

The Power of the Dog (2021)

The Power of the Dog follows Phil, who does not like his brother George Burbank’s wife, Rose, and her shy son Peter (from a previous marriage), and torments her. Eventually, Phil takes Peter under his wing and the two form a strange bond, while also discovering hidden truths about Phil’s past and his relationship with his late mentor. Set in 1925 Montana, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons.

The Power of the Dog has a 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Triangle of Sadness (2022)

Triangle of Sadness follows a struggling model, Carl, and his influencer girlfriend, Yaya, who clash over money and social status. They join a luxury cruise with wealthy guests, and soon chaos follows when they face a storm, food poisoning, and a pirate attack. Stranded on an island, the social hierarchy flips as survival skills determine power, leading to unexpected alliances and tensions.

The dark comedy stars a stellar cast including Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean. With 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie is a must-watch.

His Three Daughters (2024)

His Three Daughters follows three estranged sisters while they are forced together in a cramped NYC apartment, as they await their father’s death. Soon, tensions flare over old resentments, family dynamics, and personal opinions. Amid this drama, the sisters are shown to deal with grief and love.

Needless to mention, it is an emotional and tough watch. Directed by Azazel Jacobs, the movie has 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. 

Wake Up Dead Man (2025)

Wake Up Dead Man follows detective Benoit Blanc's return to investigate the death of a Catholic priest. The movie brilliantly balances the elements of mystery and hope. Apart from the brilliant storytelling, the movie also has a powerhouse cast. It stars Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church. 

After its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and theatrical run, the movie is now available to stream on Netflix. It holds 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Blue Moon (2025)

Blue Moon is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking movies of 2025, starring Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, and Andrew Scott. It follows songwriter Lorenz Hart as he struggles with jealousy over his former work partner’s success. He is seen to be dealing with friendships, rivalries, and creative insecurities. It shows the highs and lows of artistic ambition. 

Hawke’s performance even earned him Oscar nominations. Although he could not win the award, his impressive performance and the movie are worth watching. These are among the several gems on Netflix that cannot be missed.
