After launching The White House with Michael Irvin, which focused on sports, the streaming giant has now turned its attention to launching The Pete Davidson Show. However, this promising new project could also bring great changes to the evolving world of podcast streaming.

After the launch, SAG-AFTRA stepped in on behalf of the show and Pete Davidson to discuss its future with Netflix. And as the two parties reached an agreement, the show could become an example that helps shape future rules and contracts in this growing space.

After Netflix launched The Pete Davidson Show on January 30, SAG-AFTRA approached the streaming platform to discuss whether the project should be classified as a television series or a podcast. As per multiple reports, both parties ultimately reached an agreement to categorize it as a podcast. Moreover, the show is exclusive to Netflix and is not available on platforms such as Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

The specific rules and terms of the deal, however, have not yet been disclosed. Notably, the union’s podcast agreements often come with less strict regulations. So, that makes the show much more than just a video podcast with candid conversations, while Netflix continues to deal with rejections as well as success in the podcast space.

The Pete Davidson Show is a video podcast that arrived on Netflix on January 30, with new episodes set to be released weekly. As the comedian previously revealed, the series features Pete Davidson in candid conversations with his friends and celebrity guests, all filmed from the garage of his home. Now, the comedian is no stranger to Netflix, having previously given two comedy specials, such as Pete Davidson: Alive from New York and Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli Movie.

“Netflix was the home of one of my first stand-up specials,” Davidson said, as per Tudum “so it felt right to bring the podcast there, too. It’s me and my friends talking about anything and everything. It’s going to be a great time.”

And following appearances by his first two guests, Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) and Charlamagne Tha God, the show promises to bring more unfiltered conversations and memorable moments in the weeks ahead.
