Netflix's press release confirms that Netflix Animation Studios will officially release Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory globally in movie theatres on November 5, 2027. The feature will subsequently debut on the streaming platform on December 22, 2027. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international distribution for this wide cinematic release across all global movie theatre markets.
The story follows Willy Wonka after he finishes serving prison time for turning a child into a giant blueberry. Determined to restore sweetness to the world, Wonka reopens his famous factory. However, teenager Charlie Paley and his group of friends stand directly in the way of his grand comeback plans.
“Facing eviction, this next generation of ‘rotten’ kids plot to break into the factory, nab a priceless Wonka Bar, and save their homes,” the synopsis reads.

According to a Netflix press release, directors Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan lead the creative vision for this animated cinematic project, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory. Academy Award winner Aron Warner produces the feature alongside producer Timothy Yoo. Filmmaker Taika Waititi serves as executive producer while also providing the central voice performance for the iconic chocolatier character named Willy Wonka himself.
Kit Connor stars as the voice of the main protagonist, Charlie Paley, opposite Waititi in the lead cast. Nicola Coughlan and Charithra Chandran lend their voice talents to key characters in the film. Samson Kayo and Christopher Chung also bring their dynamic acting talents to round out the core vocal ensemble.
