Netflix to Bring a Forgotten Ryan Reynolds Mystery to Streaming, a Month Before ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Release

There was no shortage of blockbusters in Hollywood last year, much like there was no shortage of bombs as well. However, as 2024 unfolded its chapter, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool & Wolverine has become the new talk of the town and everyone is putting their money on it to likely cross a billion at the box office, leaving even Dune: Part Two eating its dust. Amid all the hype for the upcoming movie, Netflix tried to shift the focus just for a while to a forgotten gem of the Canadian star.

The streaming giant is getting ready to roll out an iconic Ryan Reynolds film, still considered one of his all-time bests.

Ryan Reynolds has lent his voice to many roles throughout his career. But one of his standout voice acting roles was in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. The animated film, based on the 2016 video game, featured the Free Guy actor as the voice and facial motion capture of Pikachu. In case it was not obvious already, Netflix is set to add this gem to its lineup starting June 1st this year.

The transition from game to live-action film, despite its nearly two-hour runtime, keeps a smile plastered on viewers' face, such is the charm of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. The movie's design and Ryan Reynolds's performance as the titular character earned widespread acclaim. It also got a solid 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And now five years after the best video game movie adaptation came to life, Reynolds seems to have failed at winning hearts with another animated flick.

Even though the makers are keeping most of the Deadpool & Wolverine bits to themselves until its release, Ryan Reynolds has already shared a snippet of his polished acting skills to fans through John Krasinski's IF. However, despite all the hype surrounding the movie, it has debuted to a lackluster reception on reputable review charts.

John Krasinski's animated film kicked off its theatrical run on May 8 in France. It had a broader release on May 17 and earned a modest 57% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the lukewarm critical reception, fans have defended the movie and the 47-year-old actor. And before the actor shows more of his potential in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans can enjoy Pokémon: Detective Pikachu on its new home, Netflix.
