Netflix Set to Bring $590 Million Worth Sci-Fri Franchise of Hollywood’s Greatest Action Hero

In terms of original action content, Netflix stands tall with its Extraction franchise starring Chris Hemsworth. However, looking to expand its library and bring forth a dose of high-octane adrenaline laden with occult sci-fi, the streaming giant has looked no further than one of Hollywood’s most bankable action heroes who stays as relevant in 2024 as a couple of decades prior. Furthermore, the latest addition has the necessary teeth to bring about a fresh outlook for the streamer’s ever-expanding catalog.

In its list of incoming titles, a swarm of content lay set to land headlined by the pop culture redefining sci-fi action franchise.

Joining the likes of its The Adam Project and Rebel Moon franchises, Netflix announced its plans to bring forth Keanu Reeves and his Matrix franchise over to its catalog. In a now-deleted post on X, the steamer showcased its to-drop catalog for April 2024 featuring The Matrix 1-3 listed for the first of the month. Featuring the iconic bullet time scene, the trilogy commands undisputed respect for its blend of special effects, action, and a thought-provoking storyline.

Released in 1999, The Matrix stands as the first and the most famed of the franchise, introducing Keanu Reeves as the prophesied savior, Neo. Also featuring Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving, the movie earned over $450 million worldwide against a $63 million budget. Subsequently, 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions released close to one another and made up for a franchise amounting to $590 million.

In the meantime, the streamer also announced additions and updates to its existing franchises while also green-lighting new ones.

A prominent highlight from the poster confirmed the release of Rebel Moon: Part 2-The Scargiver by Zack Snyder, the sequel to the 2023 Star Wars rival. Set to land on April 19, 2024, the upcoming movie will not only further the narrative plot laid down in the initial one but also make up for a bunch of its poor critical reception. The director also recently vouched for its finesse while comparing the first with Greta Gerwig's Barbie.

In its long-run plans, Netflix roped in Brian Cox along with Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy for an animated flick. Titled That Christmas, the adaptation borrows from a novel of the same name by Richard Curtis. Thereafter, plans for its Stranger Things, Heartstopper, and Bridgerton series also lie in the open, making way for a well-occupied slate.
