According to The Hollywood Reporter’s recent report, John Wick co-director David Leitch is in talks to helm Netflix’s Gears of War. Gears of War is a big-budget adaptation of one of the biggest video game franchises on Xbox. The streaming giant has partnered with The Coalition Studio, and Jon Spaihts is set to write the script for Gears of War. Leitch and his wife, Kelly McCormick, will produce the feature via 87North alongside The Coalition.

Netflix picked up the rights to the franchise in November 2022, with hopes to adapt Gears of War as a feature and then follow up with an adult animated series. The game is set on a planet where the subterranean Locust threat brings humanity to its knees, and the Delta Squad, led by the fearless and flawed Sergeant Marcus Feniz, becomes the last line of defense. As the planet hurtles towards destruction, they harness their grit, determination, and combat prowess to reclaim their homeworld.
