Is 'Man on the Run' on Netflix? Where to Watch the Paul McCartney Documentary in 2026?

The story of The Beatles is often told like a myth, four young men from Liverpool who turned jangling guitars and restless ambition into a cultural earthquake. Yet the magic of the group was also rooted in something more fragile: four distinct voices colliding and complementing one another. When the band finally fractured in 1970, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr each recalibrated their lives in the aftermath.

For McCartney in particular, that reinvention became its own journey, one that now forms the emotional backbone of his documentary, Man on the Run. But where exactly can you watch this deeply personal look at McCartney’s post-Beatles rebirth?

Despite some online confusion, Man on the Run, the documentary about Paul McCartney is not available on Netflix. Instead, the film premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 27, 2026. The documentary is directed by Academy Award–winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, whose previous work includes the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom

Part of the confusion stems from the fact that Netflix already hosts a different documentary titled Man on the Run. Released in 2023, the investigative film tells the story of the massive 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal, one of the most notorious corruption cases in modern political history.

Directed by Cassius Michael Kim, the documentary examines how billions of dollars were allegedly siphoned from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund and traces the involvement of fugitive financier Jho Low alongside former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

With a major cinematic retelling of The Beatles era also in development, the documentary arrives at an intriguing moment.

What Man on the Run reveals about Paul McCartney

The documentary begins at a moment of uncertainty. In the trailer, Paul McCartney reflects candidly:

“The Beatles had broken up and I was thinking, what do I do now?”

The band’s split in 1970 left the musicians navigating uncharted waters. McCartney admits he had to “look inside” himself, an emotional reset that ultimately led him to rebuild his creative life. Throughout the film, the song ‘Band on the Run’ echoes like a thematic refrain, symbolizing both escape and reinvention.

The documentary traces McCartney, meanwhile, rebuilt from the ground up, forming Wings in 1971 with his wife, Linda McCartney. She played keyboards and sang backing vocals. The film’s narrative is enriched with appearances and archival insights from figures including Mick Jagger and Chrissie Hynde, alongside family voices such as Mary McCartney and Stella McCartney. Archival footage also features Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, giving the story a broader historical chorus.

Currently holding a 7.6 rating on IMDb, Man on the Run stands as more than a retrospective. It is a portrait of an artist rediscovering his voice after the loudest band in history fell silent.
