A sequel for the film was teased as long ago as 2018, with writer Scott Cawthon saying a sophomore film based on the events of the second video game in the series was inevitable if the first movie performed well.

Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard have all returned for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, with Regretting You’s McKenna Grace, Skeet Ulrich, Teo Briones, and Wayne Knight joining the cast. Emma Tammi is back in the director’s chair.

The sequel, released today, picks up a year after the original, following Abby Schmidt as she returns to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, reconnecting with her animatronic friends and exploring the origins of the eccentric establishment.
