NBC cancelled the supernatural mystery drama Manifest in June 2021 after three seasons due to dwindling live-TV viewership and high licensing costs. However, just as the cancellation was announced, the first 2 seasons dropped on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada. It became an instant smash, dominating the Netflix Top 10 list for weeks, including an impressive run where it spent 27 consecutive days at No. 1. It became only the third show in Netflix history to sit in the Top 10 for over 100 days.
The heavy viewer metrics proved the show’s potential, as the campaign was spearheaded by loyal fans. The #SaveManifest Twitter (now X) movement demonstrated a highly engaged and active audience ready to consume new episodes immediately. Seeing the massive viewing data and the aggressive fan rallying, Netflix stepped in to save the day in August 2021 with a renewed season.
They ordered a supersized fourth and final season consisting of 20 episodes, allowing creator Jeff Rake to properly resolve the story of Montego Air Flight 828. The final season was split into two parts, which premiered on the streaming platform in late 2022 and mid-2023.
The sprawling narrative meticulously unravelled a deep supernatural web before delivering a definitive conclusion.
Unravelling the divine mystery and the final reset for Manifest
The fictional plot of Manifest follows the surviving passengers of Montego Air Flight 828, which departs from Jamaica heading toward New York City. After experiencing severe glowing turbulence during the flight, the aircraft lands safely, only for the passengers to discover that five years have passed. The travellers have not aged a single day, while their grieving families have aged significantly during their long absence.
The returned passengers quickly begin experiencing intense visual and auditory hallucinations known as Callings, which compel them to solve local mysteries. They eventually uncover a terrifying cosmic rule stating that they are living on borrowed time and face a definitive collective death date. The overarching mystery eventually shifts into profound spiritual territory involving divine consciousness, mystical sapphires, and a radical passenger attempting to trigger an apocalypse.

During the dramatic series finale, the surviving passengers board the resurrected aircraft to face a literal divine judgment inside the cabin. The righteous travellers successfully banish a dark shadow entity to save the world, causing the timeline to completely reset back to April 2013. The characters step out into a normal world with their memories fully intact, enjoying a comfortable current standing of a 7.4 rating on IMDb in 2026.
