Cillian Murphy Hopes Margot Robbie Sees 'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man', Here’s Why

It has been more than two years since Margot Robbie asked Cillian Murphy about the possible return of one of his most iconic roles, Tommy Shelby. What lay ahead for Murphy’s character and his gang had long troubled the well-wishers of the Peaky Blinders leader, who had been watching from afar. That long wait is finally coming to an end this year with the return of the notorious street gang in the upcoming film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

As the movie gears up for its release on March 20, the actor has even expressed a wish for the Barbie star to watch the film.

The Peaky Blinders fandom extends into Hollywood quite well, with Margot Robbie being one of the most vocal supporters of not just the series but also Cillian Murphy. During the 2023 Actors on Actors with Variety, the actress urged Murphy to return as Tommy Shelby in a film adaptation of Peaky Blinders. That conversation soon began turning into reality when production on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man started in 2024, with the film now slated for release in 2026.

However, it appears Murphy may have forgotten to personally inform Robbie about Tommy's return, as he revealed in a recent interview with Variety. Still, the actor hopes the actress will watch the film. And considering the massive global fandom of Peaky Blinders, it is unlikely that the Barbie star could have missed the news.

“No, but hopefully she sees the movie and enjoys it,” he said.

This moment also brings back memories of the 2023 pop-culture phenomenon Barbenheimer, when two completely opposite films, Oppenheimer starring Murphy and Margot Robbie’s Barbie, were released on the same day. The internet was soon flooded with memes showing the contrast between scenes from both films. Even this year, Murphy’s Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man arrives a month after Robbie’s Wuthering Heights.

As for Robbie, who had previously admitted to being a fan of Murphy, there may be another surprise as the Oppenheimer actor expressed interest in reprising yet another iconic role from his career.

Cillian Murphy is interested in his return as Jim

Before Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight, and Inception, many knew Cillian Murphy for his role as Jim in the 2003 horror classic 28 Days Later. The image of him wandering through the deserted streets of London in a hospital gown remains one of the film’s most iconic scenes. Nearly two decades later, the actor has shown interest in returning to the role for a planned fifth film in the franchise.

"Hope so! I am ready anyway," he told The Sunday Times.

Murphy did not appear in the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later and 28 Years Later (2024). However, he had a brief cameo in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. With Sony Pictures reportedly giving the fifth project a green light and Murphy’s interest, fans may get to see the actor return to the post-apocalyptic horror franchise once again.
