Chicken Shop Date grew from a low-key YouTube interview series into one of the internet’s most recognizable celebrity formats, with Amelia Dimoldenberg’s deliberately awkward pauses and chicken-shop chemistry becoming part of the brand. Now, Netflix is increasingly reaching into the territory YouTube has dominated for years, making the streamer’s latest deal with a creator-owned hit particularly notable.

Chicken Shop Date will make its Netflix debut on October 2, with the final season arriving on Netflix at the same time as it goes live on Amelia Dimoldenberg’s YouTube channel. Netflix is also adding a selection of older episodes, giving subscribers access to some of the interviews that helped turn the series into a viral institution. The incoming library includes Dimoldenberg’s dates with Andrew Garfield, Damson Idris, Central Cee, Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as Jack Harlow.

The arrangement is particularly interesting because it is not a traditional YouTube-to-streamer handoff. Variety reported that the final episodes will remain available on YouTube while also appearing on Netflix, making Chicken Shop Date another creator-led property that Netflix is bringing into its subscription ecosystem. The timing also comes shortly after Dimoldenberg announced that the series would end after 12 years.

Netflix is now taking that very internet-native rhythm and placing it inside a platform traditionally associated with polished television. And Chicken Shop Date is hardly arriving alone.

Netflix is steadily making room for YouTube’s creator class

Netflix’s creator strategy has been expanding well beyond conventional film and television. In July, the streamer announced a deal with Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal’s Mythical Entertainment that brought Good Mythical Morning, Mythical Kitchen and Last Meals to Netflix while keeping new episodes available on YouTube at the same time.

The same pattern is visible in podcasting. Jay Shetty’s On Purpose moved its video episodes to Netflix and Spotify in July, ending its run of full-length video releases on YouTube. Netflix has also brought Mark Rober into its ecosystem with a competition series, while creator deals involving names such as Nick DiGiovanni and the Stokes Twins show how broadly the company is looking across the digital creator landscape.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has described YouTube as a key competitor while maintaining that Netflix wants to work with creators of professionally produced content rather than become a user-generated-content platform. That distinction explains the strategy: Netflix does not necessarily need to become YouTube when it can bring established personalities, formats and audiences into its own subscription environment.

For Chicken Shop Date, however, the experiment comes with a fitting final chapter.
