Netflix is currently on the penchant of reinvention its inventory and its latest tap on a star-studded show comes on the coattails of the legendary American actor and comedian, Will Ferrell. Although it seemed like Ferrell had his hands full with the upcoming release of Despicable Me 4, the former SNL star was still far from over from unclasping his fist. Hence, this time, he has shouldered the responsibility of bringing some sports pills to the foray of Netflix’s already brimming athletic feed with Golf, a brand new series.

True to Ferrell’s style palette, Golf is a comedy series in which he has taken the baton of a dual role.

Will Ferrell’s acting credits have mostly confined itself to films. Hence, his arrival to the Netflix catalog with Golf will mark his first-ever lead in a comedy series. Ferrell is both a star in the show and responsible for co-creating the series along with Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz. In the series, Ferrell will portray a fictional golf legend while Youssef is also set to star in a different role currently under wraps.

Last year, Deadline reported Ferrell’s developing a series following a professional golf player who becomes the face of a new controversial league, competing with PGA. The story was supposed to set a similar tone to the athletic theatrics played by Ferrell in Blades of Glory and Semi-pro. Although it is unknown whether Golf will be portrayed along similar lines, given Ferrell is an avid golf player, either way, his initiation would mean revisiting the grounds he mastered.

Just as Ferrell's deep connections with the cinema world were established over a long period, his ties to the sports world are equally entrenched. It is this passion for sports that once led Ferrell to appear in another sports-oriented television realm in Ryan Reynolds' Welcome to Wrexham.

Will Ferrell’s extensive acting resume is rivaled by his significant sports involvement. Therefore, given his long-standing friendship with Ryan Reynolds, it was almost inevitable that Ferrell would make an appearance in Wrexham. Hence, as expected, in season 2 of Welcome to Wrexham, Ferrell returned, greeting everyone present in the room warmly. He spent much of his visit joking with the players, asking if they preferred Reynolds or Rob McElhenney.

During his tour of the Wrexham headquarters, Ferrell humorously even referred to Reynolds as a "dodgy Canadian." It was all in good fun, reflecting their long-term friendship and mutual support for each other’s teams. Considering Ferrell's strong ties to the sports world, it is likely Reynolds will soon mention Ferrell’s upcoming Netflix Golf project regardless of whether he gets a chance to grace his show given its fictional footing, unlike Welcome to Wrexham.
