With all the anime that will be available on Netflix in May 2026, it already looks like a festival for anime lovers. The streamer is about to add seven more anime titles to its already vast anime library. It is not a secret that Netflix has been diligently working towards acquiring a big share of the anime market, and its efforts can be seen with the relentless addition of titles each month.

May is going to be no different, with many popular titles like Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece making a comeback to the platform with their seasons, and some new additions like Assassination Classroom and Akane Banashi making their way to the streamer for the first time. Speaking of first-timers, Shangri-La Frontier will also be making its debut on Netflix US in May 2026.

Shangri-La's twisted depiction in this 2023 anime will now be taking a leap to Netflix and to a broader audience. 

Another popular anime of the current times, Shangri-La Frontier, will debut on Netflix at the beginning of May, making May extraordinarily abundant for ardent fans of anime. The first season of the well-known anime series, which was previously only available on Crunchyroll, will debut on Netflix US on May 1, 2026.

Toshiyuki Kubooka, whose previous credits include Berserk movies, is the director of the Japanese adventure fantasy anime series Shangri-La Frontier, which is produced by C2C. Author Katarina's web novel of the same name served as the inspiration for Kazuyuki Fudesayu's anime. Since the novel's serialization started in July 2020, 26 volumes have been released.

The anime adaptation debuted on Crunchyroll in October 2023 and has released two seasons so far. The anime has gained traction for its high-octane animation, the grounded representation of gamer culture, and a focus on tactical and entertaining action rather than life-threatening stakes.

While the action is to die for, the story also plays a key role in structuring everything together for a smooth ride.

The story follows a high-school student named Rakurou Hizutome who has a talent for beating buggy, broken games. He takes on the Shangri-La Frontier, a critically acclaimed, massive VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) as a challenge, and uses his skills to tackle some of the hardest challenges the game throws at him.

The anime that takes the familiar isekai tropes to another level will be ready to entertain Netflix members with its crisp, fluid animation and unique character designs from May 1. As the anime lands on the platform, Netflix is still busy acquiring new titles to expand its anime library, further advancing its work on capturing the anime market.
