Netflix Adapts ‘One Piece’ Creator Eiichiro Oda’s 30-Year-Old Manga

Last year, Netflix took over the world with their live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. With the series reaching major heights of success, it looks like the streaming giant wants to try its hand at adapting another one of the creator’s mangas. However, this time, they have chosen a 30-year-old creation of his, Monsters. While it was first created when he was 19, the short story will now be making its way online.

In a post on X, it was revealed that Netflix had created an animated adaptation of the artist’s short story. It would be called MONSTERS: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. The clip gave fans a peek at what they could expect from the short story. The post also revealed that it would be making its way to the platform on January 21st.

The one-episode anime was said to be set in the same world as One Piece, which is sure to excite fans. The story will focus on Shimotsuki Ryuma. He is supposed to be a samurai and ancestor to the already beloved character Zoro. The anime will unravel the story of Ryuma’s past and it might also shed some light on the origin of Zoro’s famous sword, Shusu.

It was so loved by fans that they could not wait for the second season of the series to be confirmed. Thankfully for the fans, the show was renewed just 2 weeks after it debuted on the platform.

Apart from that, the show also dominated the charts long after it was released. Just 2 months ago, the show also ended up surpassing the popular Sex Education series, which ended in its fourth season, with almost 120 million hours of playtime in its first five weeks.
