And "Patient Zero" referred to in the song is Taylor Swift herself.

In the MV, Johnson plays a woman trapped in a bleak concrete mansion. Her husband, played by Farrell, is shown as wealthy and gaslighting. Adding to the unease is the ghost of his former wife, played by Swift, who repeatedly appears to Johnson. However, a major twist reveals that Farrell’s former wife, played by Swift, was actually an heiress he gradually poisoned for fortune. Her ghost, it turns out, was not seeking revenge against his new wife but trying to alert her to the danger.

And fans are now seeing more than just a random date in 2022. While 1989 represents Swift’s birth year, 2022 has been interpreted as a possible reference to the year her relationship with Alwyn became irreparable.

Fans have also drawn parallels between 'Patient Zero' and Swift’s real-life friendship with Sophie Turner, who shared a past with Joe Jonas. Following Turner’s very public 2023 divorce from Jonas, Swift was spotted out with her on several high-profile girls’ nights. She even reportedly let Turner and her children stay at her New York City apartment during the custody battle.
