Taylor Swift’s shimmering sparkler, now adorned on her ring finger, was conceived by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, in collaboration with Swift's fiancé Travis Kelce, to design the piece. An old mine brilliant cushion cut diamond was set in Lubeck's design. Kindred Lubeck, a 30-year-old goldsmith based in New York, is known for her hand-engraved, antique-style pieces that reflect tradition and contemporary romance, capturing emotions in jewelry beyond beauty. In a TODAY interview, she called designing Swift's ring a "surreal" and "pinch-me moment," seeing her craftsmanship on the pop icon's hand.
Lubeck, daughter of a jeweler, who began designing jewelry in 2019, described the old mine-cut diamond with one-of-a-kind qualities during the interview with TODAY. While comparing modern cuts to "a disco ball," she said that old mine cuts' "flashes are broader. It creates this romantic subtlety." She constructed a masterpiece to echo both Swift's style and Kelce's personal narrative he wished to share. What excited her the most was Swift knowing who made her ring at first glance. "The fact that she recognized my work, that is such an incredible honor," Lubeck said. Currently, Artifex's entire inventory is sold out since Swift's engagement.
Taylor Swift's commercial pull and contribution to the increasing popularity of the sustainable antique stones is no joke as old cut diamonds have become the talk of the town.
Everything to know about Taylor Swift's engagement ring
The focal point of the engagement ring is the historic and rare old mine brilliant cut diamond, a cutting, found in the 18th and 19th centuries, of 58 facets, smooth corners, and candlelit beauty. Based on gem experts, Taylor Swift's diamond is between 7 to 10 carats, and may be worth between $3.5 million and $5 million or even more, based on cut, provenance, and setting, per PEOPLE. What makes it so remarkable is not sheer size but its personality, as every old mine diamond has a distinct character, less symmetrical than today's cutting, and imbued with vintage charm.
