Kanye West, has faced relentless global bans following years of antisemitic remarks, including praising Adolf Hitler and releasing 'Heil Hitler,' a song promoting Nazism. Britain denied him entry in April, forcing Wireless Festival's cancellation. France sought to block his Marseille show, Poland cancelled his concert, and Italy banned him alongside Travis Scott over security concerns.

Australia cancelled his visa after his Heil Hitler song emerged. Despite this wave of cancellations across Europe, West found a willing host in Turkey, and his new show in Istanbul managed to break all the records.

Kanye West performed for two hours at Istanbul's Atatürk Olympic Stadium on Saturday night, drawing 118,000 fans, according to Anadolu Agency. The audience was notably international, with attendees traveling from across Europe and the Middle East. It marked his first European appearance since 2014 and his debut performance in Turkey. Addressing the crowd directly, West took the stage to let the audience know the feat they achieved.

“I just want to tell y'all, we just broke the record, 118,000, largest stadium performance of all time," he said. The concert evolved beyond a standard set into a full-scale festival, featuring DJ sets, laser visuals, and performances from Turkish artists. Travis Scott also joined him on stage, adding to the spectacle.

Organizers opened stadium gates early in the afternoon to manage the overwhelming turnout, with metro stations across Istanbul packed for hours. The scale of the event underscored West’s enduring global pull, even as controversies continue to shadow his career. In January, he issued a public apology via a Wall Street Journal advertisement, attributing past remarks to bipolar disorder and a previously undiagnosed brain injury.

Yet while Istanbul embraced him, other parts of Europe continue to shut their doors.

Italy cancels Kanye West and Travis Scott shows over security concerns

Italian authorities officially cancelled planned concerts by Kanye West and Travis Scott in Reggio Emilia, citing public order concerns. Prefect Salvatore Angieri confirmed that the July 17 and 18 events at RFC Arena would not proceed. The decision followed pressure from local groups, including representatives of the Jewish community.

Community leader Nicoletta Uzzielli urged officials to prioritize events that promote unity through music. Authorities also warned of a “real risk of counter-demonstrations,” given the scale of the planned shows and the surrounding tensions. The proximity of multiple large performances further complicated security planning.

The cancellations reflect a broader pattern across Europe, where West has faced mounting restrictions after controversial statements and actions. His past comments and the release of 'Heil Hitler' triggered widespread backlash, leading to blocked appearances and visa denials. While West has publicly stated, “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite,” the fallout continues to impact his ability to perform in major markets. Through it all, his performance in Turkey seems to have pulled all stops.
