Olivia Rodrigo has reawakened her fandom with the announcement of her upcoming album. Following 'Sour' and 'Guts,' the Grammy Award–winning singer-songwriter is set to release her third album, 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,' this year. And she is clearly gone all out, which is evident in the music video for its lead single.
In the video, she is seen carrying a pink guitar and headphones as she runs and dances through the rooms of the Palace of Versailles.

Olivia Rodrigo just dropped the lead single, 'Drop Dead,' from her upcoming album. And for the music video, she managed to get the Palace of Versailles, which is synonymous with history, power, and fame. Now, securing the location is quite a surprise, considering how few films were shot in this historic place.
Midnight in Paris, Farewell, My Queen, and most recently, The King's Daughter are some of the projects that were filmed in the place. Rodrigo's swing at the sword, the 'Drop Dead' video is directed by Petra Collins. And the song is co-written by Rodrigo and Amy Allen and produced by Dan Nigro.
Allen, who previously worked with Rodrigo on the song 'Pretty Isn’t Pretty,' has also worked on Tate McRae's 'Greedy' and Sabrina Carpenter’s 'Espresso.' The song marks a departure from her previous albums, which were mostly pop-rock in style. Throughout the track, she sings about stalking a crush, references feminine intuition, and describes seeing an angel.
Even the location itself does not seem random, as they appear to have a connection.
Is Palace of Versailles a random choice in Olivia Rodrigo’s music video
The Palace of Versailles in Olivia Rodrigo's music video is a historic site that was built by King Louis XIV, the Sun King. Interestingly, the name “Louis” may feel familiar to Rodrigo’s fans. British actor Louis Partridge, known for Enola Holmes, was Rodrigo’s boyfriend. However, the two reportedly split in late 2025.
This has led to speculation about whether the song is inspired by her former relationship. Previously, she said that the song 'So American' was inspired by Partridge. However, there is nothing that confirms the speculation related to the song 'Drop Dead.' Though she has also said that many of her songs from the newest album were inspired by her time in London.

“I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here,” she told British Vogue.
All of the speculations only heighten anticipation for the release of her new track. It is all set to be released on June 12. Before that, Rodrigo will appear on Saturday Night Live on May 2.
