The Jonas Brothers star recalled the first few months after his daughter Malti Marie's premature birth under intense circumstances in an episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. Nick Jonas said that she arrived three months before her due date and weighed 1 pound 11 ounces at birth. She needed immediate medical treatment upon birth, and the NICU successfully cared for her, though the process was not smooth sailing.

Jonas revealed that shortly after Malti was born via surrogate, neonatal specialists had to resuscitate her and transfer her immediately to the intensive care unit (NICU), where she would spend more than 100 days fighting to grow stronger. The medical staff provided Malti with six blood transfusions, which were necessary for her treatment.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas took turns staying by her side, often in 12-hour hospital shifts for three and a half months, as they navigated the emotional highs and lows of their newborn daughter's early battle.

“She came out, she was one pound, 11 ounces, and purple basically. These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment, got her taken care of really quickly, and intubated and everything else," Jonas said.

"I could still sort of like, smell it, you know, there's always visceral things. It's, it's, it was both comforting and frightening, to be there every day and to see sort of other families going through similar situations," he added on the podcast.

Jonas had to spend each day there while watching families face their own challenges. He described the NICU staff as angels because they provided lifesaving care, while he explained how every moment spent with Malti had become more valuable to him. After months of uncertainty, their daughter's resilience saw her finally come home, and Jonas now sees each day with her as a gift.
