Miley Cyrus was tearful as she paid tribute to her beloved 'Aunt Dolly', whom the world knows as country music queen Dolly Parton.  After Cyrus made a name for herself, she even joined the singer for powerful duet performances, while Parton made an appearance on Hannah Montana to support her goddaughter. Earlier in August, Cyrus penned an emotional message remembering the singer, who passed away on the 25th after battling cancer.

And as Cyrus returned to the spotlight for one of her biggest performances, she honored her godmother by singing one of Parton’s hit songs from the 1970s.

Cyrus' powerful voice filled the venue as she sang the iconic song in front of the crowd. Before her performance, Cyrus also projected a photo of the singer and shared a story about her and Parton that inspired her to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. The singer revealed that she once had the opportunity to sit among the crowd and enjoy one of Parton’s performances at the venue.

She recalled asking Parton to let her simply enjoy the show from the audience. But much to Cyrus’s surprise, Parton opened the show by performing the hit track 'The Best of Both Worlds' from Hannah Montana. After the performance, Parton even told the crowd that her goddaughter was sitting among them and enjoying the show. Recalling the heartwarming story, Cyrus tearfully spoke about how their bond is eternal and that nothing could ever tear them apart.

"Knowing that I get to share this story with you all, it makes that night very worth it. This memory is gold to me. Me and Dolly, we are eternal," she said.

How did Dolly Parton become Miley Cyrus’ godmother

Dolly Parton knew Miley Cyrus’s father, country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, before Cyrus was born. He had toured alongside Parton while promoting his 1992 hit single, 'Achy Breaky Heart.' In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Parton shared that the two were good friends because she was from Tennessee, while Miley’s father was from Kentucky.
