Madonna has spent four decades cultivating an image as pop’s ultimate self-inventor, a star whose default mode is to push her own boundaries rather than gush over anyone else’s. Her interviews tend to circle back to her artistry, her risks, and her legacy, and she rarely offers open, vulnerable admiration for fellow divas. That is exactly why a new confession stands out.

As in a recent conversation, she admitted she once felt “a little bit jealous” of Kylie Minogue.

Speaking with Graham Norton in an interview aired on July 26 at London’s Koko venue, Madonna revisited the moment she wore a rhinestoned Kylie Minogue T-shirt to the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards. Explaining why she chose Kylie’s name. The award-winning performer revealed the act may have been out of admiration tinged with envy at the time.

“I was in my Western mode, rhinestoning everything, and I was trying to think of singers that I'm slightly in love with. And so naturally I thought of Kylie and had a T-shirt made of her,” she said.

Minogue was present for part of the Madonna & Graham talk, and reflected on how striking that tribute felt at the time. The moment took on new meaning when Madonna revealed the emotion behind it, shifting from admiration to honesty. Turning directly to Kylie, she admitted she had felt a sense of jealousy, adding a layer of vulnerability rarely seen in her public persona.

Pressed further, Madonna explained her reasoning with humor and candor. She pointed to Kylie’s charm and beauty, joking about how it made her feel in comparison and referencing her then-husband’s admiration. The exchange balanced playful teasing with genuine openness, offering a glimpse of the insecurities that can exist even at the highest level of fame.

A Scrapped biopic finds new life in satire

Season 2 of The Studio on Apple TV+ is turning Madonna’s canceled biopic into a piece of sharp meta comedy. The series reimagines the project within its fictional world, where Continental Studios moves forward with a version of the film that never materialized in reality.

The original biopic had been in development at Universal Pictures, with Madonna attached to direct and Julia Garner set to star, before it was ultimately shelved in 2023. Within the show’s storyline, both Madonna and Garner appear as themselves, bringing the revived project to the Venice Film Festival.

The narrative leans into awards season ambition and the chaotic energy of Hollywood, presenting a version of events that blends reality with exaggerated industry satire. Rather than treating the abandoned film as a missed opportunity, The Studio reframes it as creative fuel, just as Madonna had once refueled her envy for Kylie Minogue into bedazzled admiration.
