Is Harry Styles Gay? The Truth Behind Queerbaiting Allegations Against the Grammy-Winning Singer

Published 03/15/2026, 2:15 PM EDT

Harry Styles has been in the entertainment industry for a long time, long enough for the media to accuse him of all kinds of things they can think of. However, the longest-running allegations against him are of queerbaiting. These accusations resurface every now and then, and for several different reasons.

It is really hard to put your finger on what might have set this whole thing off in the first place, but this time it is a Saturday Night Live (SNL) monologue that has once again turned the heat up on the singer.

But whether it answers the long-standing question about Styles' orientation or not is the million-dollar question here.

The question on everyone’s mind - Harry Styles, gay or not?

Well, Harry Styles has never directly confirmed his orientation; instead, he has maintained that he does not care about labels. Once, Styles directly responded to fans' constant inquiries in a December 2019 interview with The Guardian. His response was kind of philosophical when asked about labels.

"Who cares?" he answered.

"I’m not telling you cos I don’t want to tell you," the singer added.

For Styles personally, s******** is something he considers "fun" and nothing more than that. He purposefully steers clear of the dichotomous mentality that has plagued celebrity culture. The Grammy-winner has a simple and flexible approach to life without any constrictive classification.

This refusal to make his stance clear on his gender identity just might be the biggest reason why the SNL monologue has made people once again question Styles.

Harry Styles himself labels his SNL act as queerbaiting

The monologue in question was a part of the March 14 Saturday Night Live episode, where Harry Styles returned as a host and musical guest. He joked about how people have been very critical of his fashion choices, associating them with queerbaiting. And then he kissed SNL cast member Ben Marshall when he walked onto the stage.

After the moment, he even jokingly said, “Now that’s queerbaiting."

Well, it can be presumed that this was done for pure comedic reasons, but it has instead once again given wind to the whole queerbaiting discourse. There can be a simple explanation for Harry Styles’ SNL jokes, and that does not include him being gay, to be very clear.

To understand this better, one might take a look at his dating history so far.

Harry Styles’ dating history is no secret. He has been open about it, and even if he did not, he is famous enough that the world would eventually find out. Anyhow, he has a long list of romantic partners, and it has, obviously, all female names. From Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner to Olivia Wilde and Zoë Kravitz, he has dated so many famous celebrities, and every one of them happens to be female.

Apart from the list, there are no rumored or confirmed male partners in the mix, so the allegations of him being gay do not seem to have any leg to stand on. Still, the SNL monologue seems to have misled many people into believing in those accusations. Well, it will eventually pass just like every other time he was inculpated for the same.
