It is the time of the year when the big names from the music industry come together, and among them, the artists who have touched the hearts of the most fans with their music throughout the year are celebrated by their peers. As one of the biggest fan-voted events in the world, the American Music Awards (AMAs) is considered a significant pillar of the music industry. This year, the AMAs will be hosted by Queen Latifah.

In a recent interview, she opened up about her feelings on Taylor Swift and the generational impact her music has caused through the years.

On Monday night, Queen Latifah will host the American Music Awards. She last and only hosted in 1995 as a member of a trio that also included country music artist Lorrie Morgan and Tom Jones. However, before her big comeback as AMAs host, she talked to Variety about a number of things related to the award show, and Taylor Swift, who has dominated the nominations this year, was one of them.

“I don’t know if I call myself a Swiftie, but I’m a fan of Taylor Swift, for sure. I always have been. I think she makes great songs. She makes really great, catchy songs that we love,” Latifah told Variety.

The host straight out expressed her love for Taylor Swift and her songs without holding anything back. She is not even surprised by Swift’s stardom and her many nominations this year. She explains that she has built her empire slowly over the years. First of all, she got her records played on the radio, and when young girls who looked like her at that time listened to those songs, they felt a connection.

She wrote in response to the emotions that many young ladies, and young people in general, were experiencing at that time. And as one hears her talk, she appears to be someone who preferred to stand up for others rather than denigrate them. This, according to Queen Latifah, is why people gravitate towards Swift’s music.

When asked whether she is going to perform during the show, Queen Latifah responded, saying that the event is not about her. There are some amazing nominees for the American Music Awards 2026, and they deserve to take the stage and truly shine. All she is there to do is help them on their special night.

Upon being complimented as the music royalty of America, she thanks the interviewer and lets him know that she is always ready for anything. If a guitar shows up out of nowhere, she can surely work something out. The American Music Awards 2026 will see some of the biggest pop icons attending the event, but Taylor Swift reportedly will be sitting this one out. This means Queen Latifah might not get the chance to meet her favorite pop star at the event after all.
