Freddie Gibbs Dishes Out a Kanye West Lesson With a Classic Instagram Roast
Freddie Gibbs stands tall as a prominent figure in the hip-hop scene, who started his career back in 2004 and is still going strong as a successful rapper. During his two-decade-long career, he has survived a number of setbacks like industry blackballs, Instagram bans, and public feuds with Benny the Butcher and Akademiks. Nevertheless, despite these curveballs, he is still rising up the echelons of hip-hop.
In his decorated career, he has collaborated with many famous artists, but his collaboration with Kanye West remains special. In 2009, Freddie and West worked together for the first time on the mixtape 'The Labels Tryin' to Kill Me: The Best of Freddie Gibbs.' Fast forward to 2024, Gibbs once again came together with West for the song 'Back to Me' from 'Vultures 1.'
Celebrating their bond, which goes well beyond professional boundaries, Gibbs shared an Instagram story recently that praised the artist while roasting him at the same time.

Freddie Gibbs disses and praises Kanye West simultaneously
Freddie Gibbs, the famous rapper, shared an Instagram story recently featuring a photo of him with none other than Kanye West. The story had a witty caption that mentioned a takeaway lesson from the illustrious career of the Bully singer in a way that almost feels like a roast of the artist.
“This n**** showed me you can never be canceled as long as you got classics,” read the caption.
A fun banter-type message that also reflected deep admiration for West, highlighting their bond with one another. Gibbs, who remained aloof from mainstream popularity for a long time, thrived underground and produced quality work throughout the years. But things started to change since 2014, and with the collaboration with West in 2024, he hit his peak.
His verses on 'Vultures 1' became the highlights of the album, giving him wider exposure to Kanye West’s massive fanbase. Their work together on 'Vultures,' along with Ty Dolla $ign, was considered a great success and the start of a valuable partnership.
However, everything in their relationship is not as smooth as it seems now, and once it was tumultuous, marred by ego clashes.
Freddie Gibbs and Kaye West’s complex dynamics
For a long time, Freddie Gibbs was a fan of Kanye West’s work and looked up to the Chicago rapper. When he collaborated with the artist in 2024, it was a big deal for him. And he gave it his all to make that collaboration a success, which bore fruit once the album was released. He was praised by fans for his verses, which outshone even Kanye West’s verses on the album.
This did not sit well with the star rapper, and he was furious that Gibbs thought his verses were superior to his own. Gibbs even expressed his disappointment at West’s behavior in an appearance on The Butcher Block Podcast.
“This n**** Kanye was mad about that s***,” Gibbs told the host.

However, whatever happened between them at the time seems to be in the past now, as suggested by Gibbs’ Instagram story. The camaraderie between the rappers seems to be back on track, and the fun jab at West further suggests that they are on great terms right now. Anyhow, both rappers are busy with their work right now, especially West, who is riding on the burgeoning success of his latest album, 'Bully'.
