When Charli XCX released “Sympathy Is A Knife,” many assumed it targeted Taylor Swift, linking it to Swift’s brief romance with Matty Healy. But Charli clarified in an August 2024 Vulture interview that it reflected her own struggles with self-doubt. Soon after, Swift dropped “Actually Romantic,” seen by fans as a response. Yet in an Amazon Music intro, Swift said it was about discovering someone viewed her as an adversary, without naming Charli or addressing the speculation. Hence, with both artists not accepting either of their songs as a diss to each other, maybe it is not but simply just music.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview on Tuesday, October 14, Charli xcx moreover, elegantly evaded a direct inquiry concerning Swift's song. Despite the intensity of fan speculation regarding the alleged diss track, Charli simply declined to offer any comment, choosing to uphold a boundary of silence. She said, "People are going to think what they want to think."
Even though there is no definitive confirmation, artists have a long history of association, which has been reflected in their lyrics, even if they say they are not about each other.
