Doechii has really been on a roll in recent years. She went from never even imagining she would make it out of her hometown to becoming a TikTok sensation with her 2021 hit ‘Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,’ and now finally winning her first Grammy—complete with a historic record—the rapper is finally getting the recognition she deserves. And right in the middle of such a huge moment, Doechii paid tribute to an icon who has been a major inspiration to countless artists chasing their own hip-hop dreams— Ye, aka Kanye West.

Moments after claiming her coveted Grammy at the 2025 ceremony, Doechii gave a shoutout to Ye’s iconic 2005 Grammy speech.

Doechii has just made history as the third woman ever to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys, beating out heavyweights like Eminem, Culture, and J. Cole. While accepting her award, Doechii fought back tears as she paid tribute to the two female trailblazers who came before her, Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. But they were not the only ones on her mind. Right after her Grammy win, she dropped a brand new track, ‘Nosebleeds,’ where she subtly nodded to Ye by referencing his iconic “I guess we'll never know” line from his 2005 Grammy speech.

In one of the verses, Doechii sings, “Everyone wanted to know what Doechii would do if she didn’t win, I guess we’ll never…”. Interestingly, Ye’s 2005 Grammy speech was also tied to the Best Rap Album award for his second studio album, ‘Late Registration.’ Now, that is too much of a coincidence. But while Doechii brought back a memorable moment from the 'Donda' rapper's past, the Grammys did not even welcome him.

Even though Ye was seen at the ceremony alongside his wife, Bianca Censori, it turns out he showed up without an invitation.

Ye's controversial red carpet moment at the Grammys

Ye and Bianca Censori made headlines with their outrageous red carpet-appearance at the Grammys. However, just after the spectacle, it was reported that the couple was not even invited to the ceremony. Ye and Censori were also allegedly escorted out of the 2025 Grammys by the cops. As for their bizarre fashion, Page Six reported that the couple tried to recreate the album cover of ‘Vultures’ on the red carpet.

Ye had one nomination at the Grammys, for his track ‘Carnival’ in the Best Rap Song category. But even before the main ceremony started, Kendrick Lamar took home that award at the premiere ceremony. Since Ye had no other reason to be at the event, many sources are also saying that they just walked the red carpet and left. What really went down at the 2025 Grammys is still unknown, but Ye’s influence on rising artists has once again been highlighted by Doechii's 2005 Grammy nod.
