Benny Blanco recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast and opened up about the unusual prediction his mother made years before he and Selena Gomez became a couple. During the conversation, Blanco recalled being at a shoot when his mother approached him and said

"You should really date someone like Selena." The timing made the comment even more striking. 

Blanco explained that he was already dating someone else when his mother offered the advice, leaving him confused by the suggestion.

"I said I have a girlfriend right now. What are you talking about," he recalled. His mother continued to insist that Gomez was the kind of person he should eventually end up with.

Blanco remembered responding, "Mom," while admitting that he thought she was being crazy at the time. The story takes on a different meaning now, given where their relationship eventually led. Since then, the couple's relationship has become a major part of their public lives, with Blanco describing Gomez as his best friend.

But a recent appearance of Selena has made her fans concerned for the singer.

Selena Gomez also made headlines at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where she celebrated Only Murders in the Building's recognition. The Television Academy lists Gomez as an executive producer on the series, which received a 2026 Outstanding Comedy Series nomination.

Gomez arrived at the ceremony in a custom strapless gold Louis Vuitton gown decorated with beadwork, complemented by Tiffany & Co. jewelry.  Social media users expressed concern over her noticeably thinner frame, with numerous comments flooding platforms questioning her health and wellbeing following her kidney transplant and ongoing lupus management.

The appearance followed another major awards-season moment for the couple. Gomez and Blanco attended the 2026 Golden Globes together in January as newlyweds, continuing their appearances at major entertainment events.
