Two songbirds, known for being idols to young girls with big dreams, have recently gotten into what seems like a spat, although mostly fan-driven. While a major face-off was going down in the rap game, the pop world saw its own alleged showdown between the top female pop stars, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. The supposed rift came with the release of their albums. Their latest releases clashed, despite Taylor Swift dropping 'The Tortured Poets Department' on April 19th, a solid month before Eilish's 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT' hit the shelves.

In the midst of the intense battle between their fan bases over who is outshining whom online, it appears that Billie Eilish has taken a leap forward in the charts.

Billie Eilish dropped 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT' on May 17. And within a mere four days, the album outpaced Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' and secured the spot as the second female album with the highest number of #1s across Apple Music countries. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande was in the first spot. This came right after Taylor Swift received some major backlash for announcing new variants of her 2024 album at the same time as Eilish's latest drop.

The three digital editions hit the shelves on Thursday. Each edition featured an extra version of three Taylor Swift tracks: 'The Black Dog', 'Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?', and 'Cassandra'. This move sparked accusations from many fans that the 'Cruel Summer' singer was simply trying to steal the thunder of the two-time Oscar-winning songstress. However, before Swift faced the brunt of fan fury, it was Eilish who found herself on the receiving end of backlash over a statement she made.

Billie Eilish has been raised in an eco-conscious household. And the star has always been an advocate for environmental causes during her tours and through her album merchandise. Speaking to Billboard on the matter, Eilish criticized the practice among top artists of offering numerous vinyl versions of their albums. “It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me,” said the 22-year-old.

Although she did not directly name-drop anyone in the interview, certain fans on social media hinted that Eilish might have been indirectly referring to Taylor Swift, who has a reputation for putting out numerous vinyl versions. After facing a wave of criticism, the 'lovely' singer took to Instagram to clarify that she "wasn't singling anyone out". Despite her explanation, fans remained skeptical about any lack of tension between the pop stars.
