Looks like it is the season of adding bumper stickers on Bentleys, as Kim Kardashian, who recently revealed an inner lip tattoo, now has her pre-teen daughter jesting with face tattoos on social media. Amidst the whirl of public drama, North West's controversy intersects with some family history: Kanye West once seriously entertained getting a similar tattoo for his daughter, only to be dissuaded.

Prior to North West's tattoo fiasco going viral online, Kanye West toyed with a little less than that, wearing family heritage on his own body in as much audacity and intricacy as their home appears to embody. Almost a decade ago, in London, Kanye went to Sang Bleu tattoo studio and got the birth dates of his daughter North and deceased mother Donda tattooed in Roman numerals on his wrists. The tattoos were intimate, personal memorials and acts of remembrance inked into flesh in the hours after midnight.

The rapper's then-wife, Kim Kardashian, captured the moment on Instagram, presenting them as tribute inscribed in tender numerals. What was even more surprising was that Kanye teased having those same birthday tattoos on his face. However, Kardashian talked him out of getting facial tattoos. Instead, he chose wrists as Kardashian later said she "He got it on his wrists instead," per Hello magazine. Cut to more recent times, North stood at the heart of her own tattoo drama.

A TikTok clip captured the 12-year-old North West rocking faux face tattoos beneath her eyes, cursive writing on her cheek, fake piercings, grills, and statement accessories. The internet promptly argued whether or not her appearance had crossed a boundary, particularly because she is so young. Some condemned the fashion as too adult; others described it as self-expression, sparking mass outrage online on parenting issues, and concerns over aggressive fashion choices in the spotlight, raised by Kanye West previously.

Kanye West reportedly snapped back in anger. Sources of Pop Rant claimed say he dispatched "furious texts" to Kim Kardashian regarding their daughter's fashion choices, claiming them to be extremely matured under her mother’s influence. Meanwhile, Kardashian stood by their daughter's right to play with edgy looks, presenting them as age-appropriate creative play, not rebellion. While Kanye's consideration of a face tattoo became a decade-old controversy, North sporting the fake ones on her face sparked a fresh round of public acrimony and family drama.
