Tate McRae is about to release the lead single from her fourth studio album. While the album’s official title has yet to be revealed, the lead single is out of the bag and it goes by the name of 'Housewife.' Naturally, the internet did what the internet does best. The provocative title instantly had keyboard theorists jumping to conclusions that the track was a stealth anthem for the conservative, sourdough-baking "tradwife" movement. But there were also fans who pointed out that the cover art tells a fiercely different story.
Tate McRae has now completely shut these speculations down, revealing what the song actually is about.
Tate McRae breaks down the real meaning of Housewife
During her interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tate McRae shared that the track is simply about a woman who refuses to be boxed in. As it seems, the title of the lead single, 'Housewife,' is entirely satirical and tongue-in-cheek.
"It's just kind of about a woman who can't be contained," McRae said.

Despite the very literal-sounding title, McRae’s 'Housewife' cover art is anything but traditional. Dressed in a string bikini and pushing a vintage stroller stuffed with cash, the singer hardly looks like she is selling a picture of traditional domestic life. Instead, fans have interpreted the visual as a cheeky take on female independence, as she herself confirmed on the Jimmy Fallon show as well, rather than a serious tradwife message.
McRae also admitted that her fans rarely pick up on the Easter eggs she and her team keep the dropping along the way.
Tate McRae fans totally missed this blatant Easter egg
The 'Housewife' title reveal came with a major lightbulb moment for Tate McRae’s fans. Three months before announcing the title, the singer had already put the word front and center in massive illuminated letters at the beginning of her Lollapalooza set in August. Somehow, fans completely missed the not-so-subtle hint. Once the title was officially revealed, the fandom turned the oversight into a series of self-deprecating memes.

McRae joked that her fans are terrible at finding her real hints.
She told Fallon, "They’ll always catch on to things that are completely wrong. They’ll be like, 'She wore sunglasses, so her next single’s called Sunglasses!'... They never get the most obvious Easter eggs."
The new era officially begins on October 15 when McRae drops 'Housewife,' the lead single from her highly anticipated fourth studio album. The upcoming project promises a fresh mix of high-octane pop and country, with the Queen of Country serving as an inspiration.
