Surrounded by the crescendo of chart-topping singles, record-breaking albums, and collecting awards like it is nobody’s business, Taylor Swift also saunters into the film scene whenever the mood strikes. Last October in LA, the 33-year-old hitmaker unveiled her latest concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.  However, this was not her first rodeo in the world of lights, cameras, and action! In fact, her foray into acting dates back to the early 2000s, when she made appearances on TV hits and starred alongside famous friends in films.

There is, however, always that one movie that feels like a bad dream brought to life on the big screen. Enter Academy Award winner Tom Hooper’s Cats, a movie that is often described as the worst imagination unleashed on celluloid. Despite rounding up some of the most talented stars on the planet, the result was a catastrophic flop and easily one of the most cringe-worthy fantasy films of the 2010s, which has now made its way to Netflix.

When Cats finally hit theaters, Universal was banking on its star-studded cast featuring heavyweights like Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, and James Corden and expected to rake in at least $15 million in ticket sales. Reality, however, had different plans-  Cats fell significantly short, clawing its way to a mere $6.5 million at the domestic box office. While Swift’s love for cats is always adored, the addition of this Cats on Netflix was far beyond any adoration.

Fans, as expected, did not exactly give it a warm welcome. The addition of that film to the streaming giant’s library did not sit well with the audience, and social media has been buzzing with disappointment and confusion ever since.

Fans had no interest in subjecting themselves to trauma by Cats featuring Taylor Swift

The 2019 film adaptation of the long-running Broadway musical, Cats, had already been collectively wiped from the memories of many fans. It was hard for them to fathom that Taylor Swift, known for being choosy about her roles, willingly decided to step into the chaos that was Cats. While it might seem baffling at first, considering she is the devoted mother of cats like Meredith Gray, Olivia Benson (the world’s third wealthiest pet), and Benjamin Button, it starts to make sense. This factor has also been one of the reasons for fans speculating about Swift’s role in Argylle.

Fans, on the other hand, wasted no time urging Netflix to wipe the film from its library, making it clear that a second round of the experience was absolutely out of the question.

Some even questioned why on earth a flop and disaster of a movie like that was ever brought into existence.

The movie may have struggled at the box office and faced criticism from the critics’ corner. However, Taylor Swift clearly cherished her time portraying Bombalurina on set. She even surprised fans at the end with a rendition of ‘Macavity’. Additionally, Swift collaborated with the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber to create the original song ‘Beautiful Ghosts’. This composition nagged nominations at both the Golden Globes and the Grammy Awards.
