Throwback to Taylor Swift Trying Strikingly “different” Things in ‘The Lorax’ Back in 2012

In 2024, Taylor Swift reigns among those names whose influence rides on the high waves of recognition in the industry. Not just music, but her force of talent has made her stay on the lips of every ordinary and extraordinary figure in ways beyond the foreseeable. However, a decade ago, Swift was a powerhouse of artistry who decided to unveil her aptitude beyond music in a 2012 musical comedy fantasy film, The Lorax.

It is, of course, not new that Swift has the power to achieve a level of distinction similar to that of only a very few select individuals in the industry. But back in 2012, her re-entry into this not-so-native genre in a way led to the testament of her craft beyond confinement.

Swiftie or not, when it comes to imbibing genius from a power figure, Taylor Swift’s name remains a murmur away. However, to attain this level of uniqueness, the 34-year-old unclasped her citadel of skills in 2012 with her notable debut as Audrey, the dreamer enchanted by the sylvan world in The Lorax. Speaking to MTV News in 2012 before its release, Swift admitted that this departure from her native genre was her first step into a “completely different space”

For the teenage pop star who was only gearing up in her twenties, this fresh venture was “very different” from performing the songs she wrote, as this required her to sit in a booth to initiate “conversations with no one”. However, according to Swift, finding a glimpse of the known amidst the unknown made it easy. Hence, her measuring the similarities between herself and Audrey like Swift’s growing up on a “Christmas farm” and the latter’s obsession with trees made her all the more relatable apart from the nature of her stagecraft.

Taylor Swift might be famous for her illustrious musical career, but in the 2010s, her spell in the world of acting had only begun. Hence, her choice to revitalize the performative periods came more than once.

Before The Lorax, Swift, for the very first time, appeared on the screen in the role of Haley Jones in CSI’s episode Turn, Turn, Turn. Following this, she bagged the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day to play Felicia opposite Taylor Lautner. The pop star also made a cameo appearance for New Girl’s season 2 finale as Elaine, a guest at the wedding of Cece and Shivrang in 2013.

In 2014, Swift again returned to the screens to depict Rosemary in The Giver. And like a banging end to the decade, it was the last dot that etched her efficiency in acting with impressive critical acclaim with Bombalurina in Cats. While her acting resume might not be as long a list as her musical career, given that it is surely enough to land her in the speculative role of Dazzler in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, one can ballpark its impact.
