During a candid conversation with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show this Wednesday, April 15, Anne Hathaway shared a captivating story involving Taylor Swift. While filming Mother Mary in Bonn, Germany, the actress realized her production schedule aligned perfectly with the European leg of the Eras Tour.
She managed to secure tickets for one of the shows in Gelsenkirchen, a city affectionately nicknamed Swiftkirchen during the singer’s visit. While immersed in the crowd, Hathaway experienced a moment of pure fan disbelief when she thought the singer was waving directly at her. Surprisingly, she received a note from Swift.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God! She’s so magical!’,” Hathaway shouted.
She recalled thinking to herself that she was being silly for assuming a global icon would notice her in a sea of thousands. However, a member of the tour staff soon approached her to deliver a personal note from the singer herself.
“Taylor (Taylor Swift) wants you to have this”, the staff told Hathaway. The handwritten message expressed Swift's genuine excitement that Hathaway was in attendance and promised a special wave from the stage. Hathaway erupted in joy on Colbert's couch while describing the singer as truly magical and reaffirming her own feeling of being special.
“She did the thing! (waved at her) And I was right! I am special!”, Hathaway added.
This intersection of pop culture and cinema set the stage for a breath-taking red-carpet appearance.
Sculptural elegance on the New York Red Carpet
As reported by Elle, at the New York premiere of Mother Mary, Anne Hathaway commanded the attention of the fashion world in a sheer white Lever Couture gown. The garment utilized layers of shimmering mesh ribbons to create a fluid, cloud-like effect that felt both avant-garde and meticulously controlled.
The custom creation stayed true to the sculptural heritage of Lever Couture by building volume directly onto the body without traditional corsetry. It perfectly mirrored the film’s themes of identity and the carefully constructed image of a fictional pop icon.

To complete the look, she accessorized with six-figure diamond and emerald pieces from the Bvlgari Serpenti collection, adding sharp definition to the soft, ethereal fabric. With her hair flowing past her waist and a warm makeup glow, she achieved a flawless balance between grit and glamour. Anne Hathaway effortlessly bridges the gap between a grounded fan-girl and a high-fashion icon, proving she is as comfortable in a stadium crowd as she is under the premiere lights.
