Kanye West’s return to Chicago became more than just another stop on his tour. The rapper, who grew up in the city, returned to his hometown for two highly anticipated performances at Soldier Field, marking his first Chicago shows since 2021. The homecoming drew thousands of fans and brought together several familiar names from Ye’s career, making the concerts a major moment for his longtime supporters.

Amid the excitement surrounding the shows, one unexpected encounter also left Candace Owens briefly unsure of what to expect. And for Owens, the night took an unexpectedly awkward turn before she had even reached her seat.

Candace Owens recalled a moment on her podcast after arriving in Chicago for Ye’s homecoming show. While she was collecting concert passes and speaking with someone from Ye’s team, she suddenly noticed Kim Kardashian standing in the hotel lobby.

The encounter caught Owens off guard because, as she explained, she had not seen Kardashian since before her divorce from Ye. Owens also acknowledged that she had publicly said things about Kardashian, making the unexpected meeting even more uncomfortable in her mind.

"I’m thinking, oh no, oh my, she’s going to this concert and you know I’ve said some things about Kim," she said.

Owens believed Kardashian was there for the concert and that the two could potentially end up in the same box for the evening. She even compared the moment to a viral stare-down meme, saying she simply looked across the lobby at Kardashian with a half-smile.

However, there was ultimately no confrontation. Owens later discovered that Kardashian was in Chicago because her daughter, North West, had a show the following night. Owens ended the story by emphasizing that there were “no hard feelings” and sending love to Kardashian and her family.

But while the lobby encounter was awkward, Kanye West's Chicago homecoming delivered plenty of memorable moments for fans.

Ye’s Chicago Homecoming was packed with star power

Ye performed two shows at Soldier Field on September 3 and 4, returning to Chicago for his first hometown performances since 2021. The first night drew a sold-out crowd of roughly 70,000 people, with Ye opening with “Homecoming” before moving through major hits including 'Can’t Tell Me Nothing,' 'Heartless,' 'Jesus Walks,' 'Flashing Lights' and 'All of the Lights.'

The performances also featured a long list of surprise guests. Big Sean joined Ye for 'Clique,' while 2 Chainz appeared for 'Mercy.' Future performed 'Keep It Burnin' and 'F*** Up Some Commas,' and Chicago legend Twista joined Ye for 'Overnight Celebrity' and 'Slow Jamz.'

The second night continued the surprises, with Chief Keef, Rick Ross, Don Toliver, Travis Scott, CyHi, and Young Thug appearing. One of the biggest moments came when Ye reunited with Kid Cudi, bringing their 'KIDS SEE GHOSTS' partnership back to the stage.

For Owens, though, the night began with a moment she clearly did not see coming — a surprise Kim Kardashian encounter before the music even started.
