Miley Cyrus has established herself as an immovable from the pop scene, and part of it may be owed to her breakout role as Miley Stewart in the quintessential Disney show Hannah Montana. When Hannah Montana debuted on Disney Channel 20 years ago, a generation of millennials and early Gen-Zers were first exposed to the fictional pop sensation who would go on to become a real-life pop star. The show undeniably helped build a solid fanbase for the singer and ultimately her career.

The show, however, did not just help her career, but also gave a kick start to another successful pop legend, Taylor Swift, as revealed by Cyrus herself.

The 2009 Hannah Montana: The Movie is a special landmark for fans of the show, giving them the iconic closing song ‘You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home.’ But what most of them do not know is that the song was written by none other than Taylor Swift. Revealing in the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, Miley Cyrus divulged this secret that has been kept from the public for almost 16 years now.

Swift was the ideal candidate, according to Cyrus, who stated that the production was seeking someone who could "be performing in a barn." She penned 'You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home,' along with Martin Johnson, and apparently another song that was never released.

She further added that it was not like that Taylor Swift just happened to stumble upon the song. She pitched the song while the film was in development, and everyone was busy finding the right ending.

“Taylor had pitched that song along with a lot of other writers and songs, and we were just kind of curating the thing that would most kind of bring the story of the film to life," Cyrus said in the anniversary special.

Swift's 2009 performance, according to critics, overshadowed Miley Cyrus in her own movie. In July 2024, Swift performed 'Crazier' during her second night in Edinburgh for the Eras Tour. She accompanied herself on the piano while performing the song, which has now become one of her well-known additional tracks.
