Taylor Swift is officially out of her newlywed zone and jumping back to the musical arena with some new fiery additions to her celebrated 2025 ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ album. The album has been extended by four new tracks and has been renamed 'The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.'

However, the most exciting single of the expanded album - that has Swifties in a chokehold - is ‘Patient Zero,’ which has been made into an extravagant music video featuring a couple of well-known A-listers. The music video, which features Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell alongside Taylor Swift, is set to make its debut at the MTV VMAs.      

For her 'Patient Zero' music video, Taylor Swift has enlisted a few big Hollywood names. The music video for the new song, which will be released on Friday along with Swift's album 'Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,' will feature Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The video, which Swift directed, will make its world premiere on Sunday at the MTV VMAs, where she will also receive the first-ever Artist-Director Award.

The preview of the music video was already released on September 24 on CBS Mornings, giving a glimpse of Johnson, Farrell, and Swift in it. The three celebrities appear throughout the teaser, which takes place in a number of dramatic locations, such as a bleak restroom, an underwater scene, and a snowy graveyard. 

Before concluding with a title board saying that the complete 'Patient Zero' music video would debut at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, the brief preview leans toward mood and intrigue rather than disclosing the song itself. Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki (from The Revenant and Birdman) is responsible for the video's cinematography.

The music video comes after Taylor Swift’s constant teasing about something new in the days leading up to the final reveal.  

On September 22, Taylor Swift made the initial announcement of 'Patient Zero' after a cryptic countdown on her official website reached zero. The announcement came after a few days of hints, such as the addition of a new page to her website, a modified social media bio, and modifications to the lyrics for 'The Life of a Showgirl' on Apple Music, all of which fed rumors about what she was getting ready to disclose.

‘The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,’ a four-song expansion of Swift's 2025 album, features the song as its lead single. The release includes 'Patient Zero,' 'Cleveland!,' 'Pink Clouding,' and 'Babylon.' The entire project will be available on Friday, September 25.

Positioning the visual debut right around the awards show places Taylor Swift at the absolute epicenter of a massive week for the music industry. The album drops a mere 48 hours prior to the MTV Video Music Awards, where the pop superstar is set to accept the very first Artist Director Award alongside an impressive 11 nominations.
