There are literally hundreds of stories around Oscar slip-ups, some embarrassing, some hysterical, while some are just goofy. These stories, in retrospect, become funny anecdotes that you share for a laugh or two, and become so popular that they often find a place in pop culture references every now and then.

Recently, Minnie Driver came out with a hilariously awe-inspiring story about the incident at the 1998 Oscars that made both James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger go on all fours just for her.

In her most recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Minnie Driver was reminiscing about her 1998 Oscar showing when Fallon showed her a photo from that event. While talking about that night, she revealed a story of how the Titanic director and the Terminator himself crawled on the Oscar floors to fish out some beads for her.

The incident happened when her Good Will Hunting co-star Robin Williams was accepting the award for Best Supporting Actor for the movie. While she was clapping for him in the seating area, hundreds of ruby beads from her bracelet fell on the floor, which had a red carpet. Finding red rubies on a red carpet- good luck with that!

But to her relief, two gentlemen - James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger stepped in and got down on their hands and knees to find her beads. When they were finished, Driver was shocked to see that they managed to retrieve almost all the beads, missing only four. That is like a great testament to chivalry, and a memorable moment for her, as two of the greats of Hollywood showed such kindness toward her.

Well, this is a great story now, but it might have been a bit embarrassing for the actor at that moment. However, it was not the only embarrassing moment for her that night.

A little wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet

When Jimmy Fallon showed her the photo of her on the red carpet, she told everyone what actually went on behind that picture. While she was posing for that photo, she could feel her dress slipping, and the only thing she could do at the moment was to clutch her stole around her shoulders as tightly as possible.

The funny part of the story was that her father, who was just across from her, was constantly signaling her to keep smiling and hold the stole tightly. Fortunately, nothing happened, and she was able to survive the moment; her father’s reaction remains priceless. The 1998 Oscars night was really something for her. It will be interesting to see if the 2026 Oscars add on to these zany tales or will make headlines with its changing rules and category revivals.
