Zero Day is an audacious attempt to bring on screen one of the darkest days in American history - the Columbine High School massacre, in a found footage drama format. To choose to tell a dramatized version of the account of such a horrific incident was in itself a brave but ingenious move, and director Ben Coccio deserves a whole lot of credit for his efforts, which were widely appreciated by the critics and viewers alike.

Now, the movie is once more rising in prominence, with the internet buzzing with questions about its streaming details.

Unfortunately, there are no streaming options for Zero Day in the United States, except for YouTube, where the movie can be streamed for free. Other than that, Zero Day is available in Spain and France on Shadowz Amazon Channel and Shadowz. The movie does not seem to be very popular on streaming platforms.

Ben Coccio wrote and directed the 2003 American found footage drama film Zero Day, which stars Andre Keuck and Cal Robertson and centers on two friends plotting a school shooting from the viewpoint of a video recording camera. The appeal of Zero Day, a fictitious tale of a high school shooting akin to the Columbine High School massacre, comes from what it omits, especially succinct explanations for why these terrible incidents occur.

Rather, the movie puts us under the control of its two teenage offenders right up to the violent conclusion. Their distorted worldview is about all that is seen. They are self-absorbed and relentlessly snarky; they lack specifics yet feel completely wronged. They express their anger at the world's insults in their final testament, but they quickly assert that there are no traditional explanations for the killings they are meticulously plotting.

The movie’s format, though, is something noteworthy that has gotten more attention through the years.

The unique way to tell the real story behind Zero Day

While the plot of Zero Day is pretty simple and similar to how the events of the Columbine High School massacre unfolded, the way Ben Coccio chose to tell the whole thing is what makes the movie such a unique experience. The concept for the video camera originated when Coccio conducted additional research on the Columbine High School tragedy and found that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (the original perpetrators of the attack) had used a video camera to document some of their planning.

Zero Day now has a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 41 critic reviews, indicating that the majority of reviews have been good. The fictionalized version of the true crime story was a box office disaster, earning only $8,466 against a $20,000 budget, despite favorable reviews from critics and viewers.
