Zack Snyder has apparently decided that four years is the perfect amount of time to keep a movie audience waiting. Since Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver arrived in 2024, the filmmaker has kept his latest project under wraps, following years of superhero universes, zombie heists, and sprawling Netflix mythology. Now, The Last Photograph is finally ending that drought.

And what better way to return than with TIFF, where Snyder is being welcomed back with considerably more fanfare than a quiet festival stroll.

Zack Snyder is ending his release drought with The Last Photograph, which will make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on September 13. The drama-thriller arrives as a surprise addition to TIFF’s lineup, with its screening set for the new John Bassett Theatre at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It is quite the comeback stage.

The film follows an ex-DEA agent who ventures into the South American jungle on a revenge mission, setting the stage for another intense Zack Snyder outing. Stuart Martin leads the cast, joined by Fra Fee, Jackie Kay, Costanza Andrade, Carolina Henao, and Marlon Moreno. Snyder directed the project and co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad.

The TIFF announcement also caps a globe-spanning production that Snyder mounted with Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through The Stone Quarry. Principal photography took place from August through November 2025, moving between Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles. Now, after its international journey and months away from the spotlight, The Last Photograph is finally ready to meet its first audience.

After its teaser gave audiences plenty to talk about, Zack Snyder’s The Last Photograph is now rubbing shoulders with TIFF’s most anticipated premieres.

Zack Snyder’s The Last Photograph is arriving at TIFF with some formidable company. I Play Rocky, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Anthony Ippolito, revisits the unlikely road to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky, while Chris Rock’s Misty Green brings Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace together for an industry drama. The lineup is hardly short on star power.

The festival also welcomes The Housewife, Ben Sherinian’s period drama starring Naomi Watts, Tye Sheridan, and Luke Evans, alongside Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard and Rachel Morrison’s romantic drama Love of Your Life, led by Margaret Qualley. With such a prestigious collection sharing TIFF’s spotlight, The Last Photograph has certainly picked interesting company for its world premiere.
